For a college project we had to re-design a DVD case for the film ‘This is England’, a gritty film surrounding the lives of young people in the 1980’s. I investigated my local area to see what made Britain so British so I could incorporate it in my work. Brick work, buildings, road signs, grey clouds and pigeons all came to mind. Using my camera I captured images that would be useful for research as well as used in the final product. The colours had to seem dull and grey to represent the time period and British weather but I had to make sure the cover was still attractive if people were to buy it.

Stockport college took our art group to London to explore galleries and sights. Some galleries didn’t allow photography however the Saatchi gallery did which to my luck was my favorite gallery of the trip. I prefer modern art over more traditional art. The majority of modern art is based on similar techniques used in traditional art but applied in a different way or media. I found the London trip overall really inspiring. I would have sat down and made some sketches for myself if I had more time. I took my camera and tried to take as many photos as I could to record my findings.
